Diablo players have been waiting with anticipation for the arrival of the game's first ladder rank season, and it's finally due with the release patch 2.4. Players playing as ladder characters will even get access to new Runewords that aren't accessible to people playing normal characters at least during the season. As for the length of time each season will last, Blizzard states it is currently contemplating four-month seasons but that's not going to be in place just yet.

In a recent interview Diablo: Resurrected Design Lead Robert Gallerani stated that balance changes didn't occur to the game until launch because the team wanted to provide the player with "authentic user experience." The game has been available for several months in the meantime, and that the development team has time to learn from feedback from players they're excited to implement larger changes similar to those made in patch 2.4.

The different Soul Shards have a wide spectrum of capabilities that augment gameplay. For instance, the Sliver of Terror Soul Shard can, for instance, increase the time between cooldowns of abilities however, it reduces damage to each ability that is cooldown.

The shards are upgradeable to increase the benefits of the game by using the new item that is seasonal called Hellforge Embers.
