I am Everything your mother told you to avoidA Poem by Hanna McGivernThis poem is based on an activity from one of my creative writing classes. We had to use the 'I am' statement to write a poem based around concrete images.I am
everything your mother told you to avoid I am the icy mountain trail. I am the summit of every peak. I am well-worn boots that stomp tracks to your fragile heart. I am a half formed snow flake, melting your skin with a sting. I am a freshly found mirror of ice, to entice your reflection before you fall for me as I disappear to let you founder, alone. I am a crisp cut icicle prepared to shatter my sharp exterior should you tempt me so. I am your sun, shrouded in gloom that hides my intention to blind you. I am the flames in your fireplace, seductive but hostile to your touch. I am the burning scar across your wrist reminding you of a rotten love. I am the bottle of whisky that chases demons God told you were real. I am the Bible that you don’t quite believe. I am your ticket to hell. We are sun-bleached sin. © 2013 Hanna McGivernReviews
