Supposed To Last Forever

Supposed To Last Forever

A Poem by Parachutes and Sunshine
"

We're doing Shakespeare in english now. So we had to write a sonnet. It's completely fictional though. (this was 8th grade)

"
It's the hope that my heart always held
The idea that never went away
I loved the way it felt
From the thought, I never wanted my mind to astray

You made me believe in love
It seemed right, the way our hands fit together
As if we could hear the angels singing above
I thought it would be forever

It wasn't fair
The way you were taken from me too soon
My whole body ached with nothing but despair
What I would give for just one more afternoon

I only want to be with you again
My love, my best friend

I haven't read many Shakespeare sonnets, only really studied a few of his plays, but this does feel very Shakespeare like, especially linking in the angels and the ending, how your love can also be your best friend. Regardless of whether this is close to Shakespeare or not it's a nice poem all the same :)
