Cruise

Cruise

A Poem by Parachutes and Sunshine

The road is empty ahead

But all I can see is potential

Wheel in center, window on left,

My head in the clouds

Fingers can’t help but dance delicately,

Tracing the wheel like you trace my face

The wind always blows in these things

These feelings

They smell like the breeze and black ice air freshener

My lungs grip this tight

This seat belt and a few more miles

Are the only obstacles between you and I

Rest my head back on the warm cloth

Daydreaming in the nighttime

Crash

Trying to wake myself up from the nightmare

Grip the smokey cloth

The air is gone

All the windows are rolled up

No oxygen left anymore

Stale air strangles my lungs

Wheel in center, window on left

My heart is with you

A piece of me left on the side of the road

With everything else thrown out the windows

The road is empty ahead

But I can’t see

Sometimes we can't see in the empty road because our mind is preoccupied with many wanted and unwanted things of life. You capture our helplessness in a language that came straight from your heart. Great job.

The longing was almost tangible. The tragic end was well done.
