A Story by hannahleeduggan

Wind slipped around her, rolling through her hair and twining around her body.

The air had a crisp autumn tinge to it

thought the leaves were just poking out of the trees.

She liked to close her eyes as she walked, thrilled in the way having no course gave shivers to her bones.

It could be anywhere - in cities, on sidewalks, with people rushing around her,

where no one touched, in a kaleidoscope of human weaving.

Through the woods at night, where rocks popped and clattered beneath her feet,

and twigs trailed her arms as she brushed past.

The longer she kept her eyes closed the bigger the breath of air seemed to fill her lungs

and clean her out.

It felt like rain on the ocean -

drumming and rhythmic and soothing; massaging her aches and sores.

These moments felt sincere, like a promise that was never fulfilled,

but certainly never broken.
