Untitled #41

Untitled #41

A Poem by hannahjchin

We have been caught.
Well not yet, but soon.

We are the moment
when the oak in the
forest falls...
Moments before it
falls
and makes a
sound.

You are I are the oldest
child sitting at the
dinner table, pretending not
to be able to understand
as our parents spell out
D - I- -V - O - R - C - E
for their "children's sake".

You and I are the
99th problem, the
364th day of unanswered
phone calls when we have
promised ourselves
365 was the last day we'd wait.

You and I are slippery
hands that have just
fallen limp and watch
with eyes that attempt to
reign in the crystal glass
we have dropped

you... and I?
We are the sudden
heat. The thick dampness
in the air.
The charge of desperation
bordering on frustration
the moment before the
tantrum.

The moment when you can
hear thunder in your mind
and suddenly hear it echo
your ears.
