Untitled #27

A Poem by hannahjchin

I see through you
in the crinkle of wrapping paper.

Your mouth moves but
all I hear is a lie spoken
underwater.

Hurts my head as your words
fill my nose with the stench of
desperation.

Your eyes flicked back and forth
with the eyes of a man looking
for escape
but scared
of freedom.

The sound of wrapping paper
makes me close my eyes.
I swallow my shame
because i cannot see you through
the paper anymore.
