Path Taken

Path Taken

A Poem by hdean

I have grown.

I do not recognize the path that I am on, if I am on a path at all.

But I walk sturdily and I am conscious of the steps that I take forward.

The stones lining the ground are rounded smooth from decades of arguments with nature

And although my feet ache from their unbending backs

It brings comfort to me.

At least I can feel.

There is a renewed sense of clarity that I have not sensed before.

Faint memories of dusty visions and a frazzled confusion are still kept in the back of my mind

But now I can tell the difference between

Reality and distorted reflections

Salt and sugar.

The trees are beautiful

Dark, rich tones

So much depth is sown between each delicate leaf and the sky that cradles it within wisps of fingers.

The air is clean and is saturated with a neutral earthy taste

Earth and life and an eternity of time

It soothes my very soul.
