My hometown.

My hometown.

A Story by Hannah Langlinais

I have a whole lot to say about Erath, Louisiana. Erath is my hometown. A place I grew up my whole life. I've lived here from birth and now I reside here again, after a year and a half spent in Maurice, Louisiana. Growing up here was totally different from the way I'm living now. Everyone accepted each other and no one ever let each other down. But now it's like no one can go a day without being put down by someone who thinks they run the high school or the town itself. I speak for myself, and maybe others, when I say it's getting pretty pathetic for me to begin dreading coming to school because of the selfish, low-lifed people there. From my point of view, NO ONE IS ACCEPTED. You either have to be what they call 'popular' to fit in or you had to have hung out with certain people since Pre-K to fit in. A new person comes to school and they're suddenly an outcast because no one wants to accept them. They judge others by their hair, clothes, speech, shoes, whatever it may be. Just because you're parents can't afford to buy nice things for you, you're suddenly given the title as 'poor'. And I mean really, who wants to hang with someone who doesn't have nice things? According to the people of Erath, most people don't. If you have money, you're suddenly popular because you have nice things everyone wants. Honestly I don't care for money or nice things on a person. If you're personality is the best it can get, you will be accepted and you will be apart of what people call 'their group'. If you have parents that are teachers or that work for the state or school board, you're suddenly popular. Oh you started a rumor? That's okay, you're suddenly popular. If you make someone feel sad or say something to hurt their feelings, that's ok too. People will laugh at that person and you'll become popular for being a bully. If you get in a fight, you're popular! If you're a cheerleader, dancer, or whatever it may be, once again, you're suddenly popular. Erath High is a school in which hardly anyone is accepted. And I speak from personal experience on that one. I just want to go to a school where everyone is treated equally and there's no such thing as popularity. I have a heavy heart when saying the town I once loved is now becoming a town I loathe.
