I've picked these urchins for commercial purposes and you are right, the little quill that is injected into the skin works its way to the bone, becoming infected and festering before being rejected by the body.. though I know we aren't talking about sea urchins :D

Ah, such philosophical words...And true. Somewhere, along the way, we make the mistake of exposing ourselves, of showing someone who we really are and we get hurt. If only emotional pain would be like a headache - one tiny aspirin and it all goes away...
Also, thank you for making me a little smarter. Since I didn´t know what an echinoderm was I looked it up. Now, not only do I know, but I also understand what you mean by the title. It fits the poem like a glove. )

Yeah I was actually playing to give confusion to the readers. The photo matches the title depicting an injured echinoderm. But paradoxically, they would give you a very excruciating pain if you accidentally step on them.
