Fire in the NightA Poem by Hanna LilyFire in the Night She stands, gazes at the stars above, She thinks, wonders, watches the horizon bloom in cerise, Why has love abandoned her? Glittering frost in the winter night, a snow white dove, Who would dare to disturb the peace? The sound of a thousand footsteps disrupts the beautiful silence, She turns her head, fear leaps into her heart, Fire dances in her eyes of gold, A flame so bright that the stars fade. She runs, her nimble feet taking her far, Wind brushes her arms, The clouds are blowing gusts of ice at her. She can hear them behind her, they are faster than she, What did she do to deserve this fate? Oh, beautiful sky, your stars deceive, They shine so brightly on this wicked eve, She turns around, sees her home rise up in flames, She stumbles, and falls, All is lost, all is over. A hand grips hers, Perhaps the stars aren't as deceitful as she thought. © 2014 Hanna LilyReviews
