Outlander is one of the most popular novels written by author Diana Gabaldon. It was written back in 1991 but it’s still gaining popularity today mainly because of the new TV series of the same name that came out recently. Outlander is a novel that makes a long lasting impression and features a mix of several different genres including science fiction/fantasy, adventure, romance and historical fiction.

Due to its growing popularity, many tour operators now offer the so-called Outlander tour. If you decide to go on such a tour you will be able to explore and see for yourself the beautiful homeland of the main characters " Scotland. People who want to join such a tour will be able to visit all the film locations from the brand new TV series. These include the Mercat Square and Herb Garden, Cranesmuir, Inverness and of course Castle Leoch which is the central point for the Clan MacKenzie and home to Colum MacKenzie.

There are also other places that you will be able to visit, but these all depend on the tour operator that you choose to go with. When you go on such a tour you will receive a local guide, who is of course fan of both the TV series and the novel. Your guide will be able to tell you details that you most likely don’t know and also show you the differences between the Outlander novel and reality. When you go on an Outlander tour, you will also learn about the rich history of the places that you are going to visit as well as interesting local myths and legends.

But going on an Outlander tour doesn’t mean that you will be quickly shown around and then dropped back at your hotel. You will have time to explore the amazing courtyard castle from the 14th century which was used as Castle Leoch, see for yourself the popular railway station where Frank and Claire start from, check out Captain Randall’s imposing castle, have a cup of coffee at the place used as Campbells Café and basically do all kinds of other cool things.

Most tours only last a day, but that doesn’t mean that you cannot book a hotel nearby and stay a little longer there to appreciate the beauty of Scotland. There are many reasons why it is recommended to go on such an organized tour instead of trying to plan the whole trip on your own. For one, your guide will be able to provide you with a great deal of useful and interesting information about the places you visit. You will also find it very cheap compared to organizing everything yourself.

People who go on such trips usually share a common interest in both the book and the TV series. Therefore, the chance to make new friends is actually pretty good. This is also one of the reasons why some people prefer going on organized trips. Being able to share the excitement of visiting these beautiful locations with someone likeminded makes the experience that much better.
