When it really flows, you'll know it: your whole body feels in tune and the club hits the ball with just the right impact. That sound of a perfect swing is unmistakable. When your swing isn't how you want it, it can be harder to pinpoint exactly where it needs to improve without some direction. As it turns out, most golfers can up their game by making just a few adjustments to how they swing. Try out the following three tips and watch to see how your game changes. 1. Drop your chicken wing - The chicken wing happens when your left arm bends slightly right after the impact. (For lefties, the right arm.) If you tend toward the chicken wing, several factors may be to blame. It's possible that you aren't sufficiently engaging your lower body in the downswing. You might also simply have insufficient flexibility or strength in the shoulder joint. To fix the problem, try exercising your shoulder, your lats and/or your rear delts. 2. Mind your casting - When there is a breakdown in a golfer's downswing, something happens called "casting." This means that the angle of the wrists begins to change too early in the swing. As a result, the golfer has less power. To fix the problem, work on strengthening your arms, es-pecially the forearms. 3. Stop swaying and sliding - When you sway and slide, it means you aren't rotating around the axis of your spine. As a result, your leg locks and your have an unreliable swing. Do leg exten-sions, hip extensions and groin stretches to improve the tendency. Like dancers, golfers must control their muscles with refinement. At the same time, they must master the mental aspects of the game. As such, it's no surprise the sport draws so many ardent enthusiasts.
