Crayons Are The Smell Of Childhood

Crayons Are The Smell Of Childhood

A Poem by Nessa
"

I miss those days...

"

The creak of the chain

The rhythm of the wind through the trees

Memories of the past replace the pain

Hearts are harder to fix than skinned knees.

Hand in hand

The pebbles between our toes

Barefoot in the sand.

We'll set off to the place that no one knows.

Higher and higher

This love's spreading like fire

Keep swinging, keep swinging

Can't you hear the ringing?

Of the silver bells in the distance.

The rust under my fingertips

The cold wood I'm sitting on.

The static from our lips

Could last till dawn.

Don't be afraid, just let go

Sun in your eyes, glistening with tears

Shake the ground of the earth below.

Who ever knew the past was so near.

Higher and higher

This love's spreading like fire

Keep swinging, keeping swinging

Can't you hear the ringing?

Of your knee shaking voice.

Let's sit in the sand box

With the old acoustic guitar

Sing me "our song" that we heard on those late night walks.

Leave in me a permanent scar.

So, higher, and higher

This love is spreading like fire.

Keep swinging and swinging

Can't you hear the ringing?

Of the funeral bells.

A special thanks to Allie_Scemo for the title of this song. By the way, I meant for this to be a poem, but I like it better as lyrics...

D: that made my heart melt. you are a fantastic writer. this is the type of song that is going to stick with people when they hear it. it perfectly depicts passing time and aging but in a way that is subtle. its very nice:D

a good way to shake the nostalgia, though, is a day in the park. when spring rolls around head to the town park with a bunch of friends, a boom box, and some chalk and dress up the tennis quarts. then grab some slush puppies at charlies and lie in the grass or go to the swings. (hopefully they will be in better condition). age doesn't matter with these types of things.

I loved the abundance of youthful thought in this. It will also be enjoyed by people much older such as myself. You take us back. I cant believe you are only 13. Yes, I can definitely hear this put to music. Nice work!

Very original lines in these lyrics. I could hear the song almost, and really picture the imagery, like "cool wood" and "pebbles between toes".

I'mma go give it another read now for the fun of it. :D

'Who ever knew the past was so near'. I really like this line. The past is never really gone it is always with us and we wouldn't be the people we are today without it. And I agree, I think the repetitive pattern does lend itself to lyrics. Nice write. NH

Haha, this is really pretty =]
Haha, that was the best conversation we had about crayons being the smell of childhood.
Its very true.
Whenever I smell them, I remember the imagery you should.
Very nice work Nessa!

Love,
Allie Scemo

I see why you decided to make them lyrics. They feel musical as I read them. Well done. Wow... such talent in one so young. I am impressed. Great work.
