At the Tone

At the Tone

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

My phone's in my pocket

I set the volume on ring

And every time that it rings

I'll hope it's your name I see on the caller ID

You've put me through the ringer

But I'd still answer if you called

So don't change your number

And just leave a voice mail when you hear the tone

You know I'll listen when I get the chance

I'll always return your call

I”d never leave you hanging

That's not how love works

My phone's on my bedside table

I set it on vibrate

And even if you call at midnight

I'd still answer
