You Lost Everything

You Lost Everything

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

You dug your own grave

Make it deep just in case

You had just about everything

But you took it all for granted

You were living the American dream

Your life was rich and full of love

But you never appreciated it

Nothing was ever enough for you

You don't know how to be happy

Everything you try ends in failure

Maybe you've been trying too hard

It isn't supposed to be this complicated

You had everything a man could want

But it couldn't make you whole

You never took the love you were given

then wondered why it stopped coming

You never appreciated me

You just took me for granted

Love wasn't meant to be this hard

I never asked all that much of you

love is complicated to figure out. Very nicely expressed.
