What You've Become

What You've Become

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

They say talking makes it better

But eventually they stop listening

They're too caught up in their down lives

To really give a damn about yours

I can't confide in you

You refuse to hear the truth

and yes it hurts how much he loves you

In you I see what I've lost

I can't love who you've become

You blame me for our troubles

but I'm not the one who pushed me away

The way I'm treated isn't fair

I can't talk about it with anyone

because I'm forever the scapegoat

They all tell me what I should do

But they'd never walk in my shoes

The truth is I'm so lonely

I've pushed everyone I love away

The truth is I'm still a child

Lost in the body of a grown up

We're more similar than I’d like to admit

I'm scared when I see myself in you

Am I destined to become

Someone who can't feel anything at all?

They say talking makes it easier

But no one around me understands

and frankly they're too busy with their own lives

To stop and give a damn about me
