Absence

Absence

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

I'll always remember that night
I learned where your priorities lie
I'll never forget how it felt
To find I wasn't one of them

You only had one chance
And you chose to squander it
You don't even regret it
And that's the most insulting part

You cut into me with words
That leave lingering sores
I never know what to expect from you
We're disappointments to each other

Now I know where your priorities lie
And I'll never be one of them
But I'll always remember that night
As the time I accomplished my dream
