Lion's Den

Lion's Den

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

It’s funny how from a distance

Things can look so intimidating

Then you walk into the lion’s den

And find it filled with kittens

The fingers tapping on your window

Belong to the branches of a tree

That dinosaur creeping along your wall

Is a laughable, misshapen shadow

A small girl from a small world

Once told she’d never amount to anything

She hid behind a wall of hatred

Until suddenly she was filled with courage

She was the runt of the litter

But she had the loudest bark of all

She was the lone wolf on the cliff

But her howl could be heard on the moon

She never thought she could fit in

Not in a place like this

But when she entered the lion’s den

She emerged as one of them
