A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

When did you stop loving me?

Or did you never start?

Were you only pretending to care?

Were your words empty air?

It seems I was under a false impression

I thought I meant something to you

I thought what we had was special

You went and snapped our bond

Were you just acting the whole time?

Were you using me to get to her?

Was I nothing more than a pawn?

A malleable piece in your game

How can you say you love me?

How can I know it’s not another lie?

You know I gave you my childhood

My open, innocent, naïve heart

I gave you my absolute trust

You wrung your hands, turned it to dust

I gave you all my hopes and dreams

You twisted them into a nasty knot

When did you stop loving me?

Or did you never start?

Tell me was it all just a ploy?

I’m nothing more than a forgotten toy

When did you stop caring?

Or did you never start?

I searched desperately for an answer

But perhaps it’s best I don’t know
