Damaged Beyond Repair

Damaged Beyond Repair

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

Every bit of news I receive about you

Is just another testament

To how far you have ventured

From the girl I once knew

I clung to the belief

That deep down somewhere

You still belonged to me

Now I know that’s not true

No boy ever could break my heart

The way you managed to do

And nothing ever hurt as bad

As when you turned your back

It doesn’t seem plausible

I thought it was impossible

I was convinced we were a team

But you decided to quit

The girl I knew is gone

The girl I loved is dead

If only I could resurrect her

I don’t feel whole without her

I wanted so badly to believe

Your feelings ran as deep

You were practically a sister

Family is supposed to stick together

Every bit of news I receive about you

Forces me to accept I lost you

Maybe I let you slip away too easily

I reached out far too late

We were both so careless

It spelled the end for us

You had the power to hurt me

But I know I hurt you too

I can’t place all the blame on you

That wouldn’t be fair of me

We’ve been damaged beyond repair

Now we're no longer a team
