Daughter

Daughter

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas
"

This poem is about Elias and Violetta Reddock from The Secret of Cwenburh. Elias is a poet and this is a poem he's written expressing his unconditional love for his daughter.

"

It’s not my blood in your veins

But you still belong to me

And you might have his face

But those eyes look into mine

I’m the one who rocked you

It was I who hummed you lullabies

When you fell and scraped your knee

I’m the one who kissed it better

My arms are the ones that held you

My hand is the one you clung to

My shoulder’s the one you cried on

My voice was the one that soothed you

It was him who gave you life

But I’m the one who helped mold you

When the world was cruel to you

I was there to defend you

How could you lose your faith in me?

Did I give you a reason to doubt?

Would he have crossed a mountain for you?

Understand there’s nothing I wouldn’t do

I fell in love from the start

I wouldn’t allow you to tear us apart

I’ll love you until the day I die

And then continue on from the grave

My affection for you knows no bounds

I wonder if you still belong to me

I’ll never cease fighting for you

I’d never work against you

I love you enough I’d let you stay

If that’s what it took for you to be happy

I confess I would walk away

But I’d remain close by waiting

I’d never stop praying you’d return

You broke my soul when you left

But I’d put in all in the past

If it meant having a future with you

Those green eyes might match his

But I don’t see the resemblance

It might be his blood in your veins

But the way I love you will never change

This is a genuine master piece.
I loved every little bit of it.
The imagery is wonderful as is the undying love of a father to her daughter
beautiful.

Thank you for sharing.
