So Did He

So Did He

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

You seem really nice

You’re trying to talk to me

You have a dazzling smile

But then again so did he

I want to get to know you

Maybe even stay for a little while

But even though I’m looking at you

It’s his face that I see

What if I start to trust you?

The way I trusted him

Would you let me in?

Or shut me out like he did?

I’m damaged goods now

I’m filled with doubts

Love doesn’t meant to me

What it once did

Why should you be different?

It seems to me you’re all the same

I know where this leads

I’ve been down this road before

The girl in me wants to believe

Fairytale endings still exist

But my prince turned into a frog

My clock struck midnight long ago

I can’t repeat my mistake

I’d rather be safe

This fall is a long one

And the current is strong

So I’m sorry for this

But I can’t even be your friend

Not knowing how this could end

We’re both better off if I leave now

You seem really nice

For a second I thought twice

You have the most marvelous laugh

But then again so did he
