Shambles

Shambles

A Poem by Haley Lynn Thomas

First came the flow of tears

Then later came the angry ranting

She didn’t want to admit she missed him

So instead she claimed she hated him

She tried to convince herself she was fine

That she was better off without him

But the heartbreak was taking a toll on her

It was the hardest thing she’d ever gone through

He was the first one she gave her heart to

And it was just like a fairytale story

She never expected the climax to reach an end

She never anticipated winding up all alone

He was supposed to be her prince charming

But he transformed into a dragon

And he burned down all of her beautiful dreams

Leaving all of her hopes in shambles

She wanted so badly to hate him

Because it was far too painful to love him

But as she made her way home that night

She finally confessed she missed him
