Looking out the window as the bus pulled away I wondered what would have happened if I hadn't walked in first. If one of the other passengers had frightened the young robber, probably would have a hostage situation on our hands and god knows how long that would have taken. Once again the universe put me where I was needed, or rather I just happened to be in the right place, it can be hard to distinguish between the two.
"What language was that? I never heard anything like that."
I shrugged my shoulders and put my arm around Karrey,
"I'm not entirely sure, I know the ancient Jewish priests would speak in strange tounges, the best I can figure is it's a mix of old Hebrew, ancient Latin with a little bit of Aremaic."
"Oh, that is pretty strange."
I looked at Karrey and wondered how she was staying so calm, most people get a little hysterical after being shot at, I know I was my first few times.
"How old were you when the stuff started happening to you?"
I sighed and tried to think of some way i could deflect the question, I don't mind talking about my past but ancient history should stay buried.
"About five or six years old, sometime around first grade, I thought it was normal to talk to my dog and have him answer in my head, or to watch the clouds move along the sky and see the grid lying beneath the great expanse. Sorry if I'm sounding poetic but honestly, it's the only way to get the images across. My mother didn't freak out when I started telling her about my nightmares and visions, she just cried to herself and then sent me to live with my uncle for a few years. She was gone by the time I returned."
Karrey grabbed my hand and I smiled at the contact, her quiet voice ws full of sympathy,
"I'm so sorry, my mom died when I was little too."
"Oh she didn't die, at least not right away, no she left me because she couldn't deal with my problems. She remembered how my father would get and she didn't want to be around that anymore. So I moved back in with my uncle and he did his best to raise me and keep me from hurting myself."
My stomach rumbled and reminded me that i never dd get anything to eat at the gas station,
"Hey doll, you got another granola bar for me?"
