A Meeting in the ParkA Poem by Dennis Whitepersonification of a poemI once met a poem While sitting in the park He gently shook my hand While sang a meadow lark He said he had a title A mere formality He wore it like a smile For strangers there to see He spoke of life and love In muted hyperbole Touched deep places in my heart As he shared his soul with me In his cadence softly flowed A metered liturgy Verse by verse his words rang true With vivid imagery He spoke of nature, things unseen, The cosmos and the moon I listened so intently Late in the afternoon Then at last was time to part But I knew we'd meet again 'Cause in this brief encounter I knew I'd met a friend © 2011 Dennis WhiteAuthor's Note
