Assault

Assault

A Poem by Frances Smart
"

Public perception versus reality

"

You were screaming
The most vile things
And I was begging you
To come in the bedroom with me
Telling you we could talk privately there
But you wouldn’t listen

Our children were listening though
When you called me that horrible name
And your son looked up at me and
Called me the same thing
Thinking that it was funny
Because he was only two

And when your daughter
Turned pale and put her hand
Over her open mouth in horror
Because you had just called her mother
A lousy piece of trash
And she was four
And old enough to understand
That calling her mommy a name
Was a really bad thing to do

Now the courts think
I must have been crazy
To leave my lovely husband
The minister of the Gospel
They took my children
And gave them to the man
Who violated his sacred trust
And his solemn promise

They do not understand
What you are like behind closed doors
But I know
That the God who called you
Is the same God
Who will call you to account

this poem is perfect for my arguement against the corruption of power
a priest getting away with assault because he was looked upon as a righteous man even though he really isn't is a perfect example of corruption of power

great piece...i loved it
i felt the heartache and the pain that echoed in this poem
along with the horror and atrocity that comes along with it

great piece =)

amen to that! God knows and sees all no matter how painful it is to us, because he never promised to prevent such pain, but only that he would endure it with us, to beieve in him to see us through and mend our broken wings.

How sad and desolate. What kind of man can walk two lines - one in the light and one in the dark. If this is a true story, I feel for you. What a wolf in sheep's clothing. Well written though.
