Wonder Wonderland

An acrostic poem based on Alice in Wonderland.

Why does the sky and earth keep spinning in circles

Over and over in the reflection of every gleaming eye

Nothing seems to be as we were taught to believe

Dreaming that doors are made of lucky wood and silver cloud linings

Every step goes in every direction until someone at last hits the ground

Relieved that nothing's gotten in the way whichever way that's been gone

Why can't the heart take every chance to start singing

Or are we running through a checkered maze that was only imagined

Not until the rise begins will the leafy bridge fall to the other side

Don't be afraid; go ahead and jump off into the spinning clouds

Everyone leaves the steady ground someday in some way

Realizing that the mirror is but one of a thousand reflected from a window glass

Look; that growing feeling is the key to the lock that keeps the heart from flying

Along to the door the world that sweeps out from underneath shrinking feet

Never pretend it's not your voice being carried out by dancing laughing winds

Don't you wonder that to wonder is the most wonderful thing
