The SwansA Poem by I Cast a ShadowSwans are known to mate for life.
The Swan; it swam away from me
One Autumn day so silently. The lake was calm tranquility The day she swam away from me. Her grace and noble selfishness; A flowering solitude flourishes As reeds and trees droop and weep And rings of ripples calmly creep. When she left the leaves fell dead And after death came abysmal snow; It fell without sound; bleak and slow The air drew quiet and I saw in; There was no other way to see And before I knew there came the Spring And something swam familiar again. She came with petals that trailed behind her. She came with feathers whiter than before. I never forgot her gorgeous galore. Instead, I recalled myself and more. When she left the ripples rested. It was only then that I saw my reflection. I gazed down into the water And saw a swan -- and it was I She was I and I was she And that is the way it will always be. My lake was calm tranquility The day the swan swam back to me.
