Lies

Lies

A Poem by h1ghstrung

Lies are all around us.
Every day, every single one of us lies.
Whether we've been faithful in our religion, in our relationships
Which restaurants we enjoy
What music we listen to
What makeup or clothing we wear.

We compromise to spare other peoples' feelings.
But that is all a lie.
The only real question is, why do we lie?

It's not so noble as consideration for another person.
If we were truly considerate we would be honest.
We are selfish. We spare our own feelings.
Lies allow us to avoid situations so we won't have to deal with them.
We spare our own feelings at the expense of the other person.

We lie.
