A Poem by Shalini R
"

The title is a joke with a friend.

"

New phenomenon in the North.

They’re callin’ it solid air.

Mighty hard to drive through

Mighty hard to dive through

It’s coverin’ our sidewalks,

            Getting in our ponds.

The fish are dying

Dang fish.

I’ve got some solid air too

Coming on out, curling off my tongue.

Word, phrase, sentence.

Heavy, solid air.

Rock heavy, tar heavy.

Maybe there’s a cure.

I wonder what the solid air really is... Could be a reference to political obfuscation, could be pollution. I like the way that the fish are blamed for dying! Very vivid descriptions of the solidity coming out of the mouth, rocks and tar have a density and turgidity. I have a feeling that the heaviness means lies, deceit. It is, indeed, hard to dive through. Nicely done. xxx
