What I've LearnedA Poem by Shalini RI’ve learned the pattern of stars and the steep of stairs And crystal freezes to make perfection. I’ve learned that imperfections make you flawless And to chase after one will not lead to either. I’ve learned cause and effect Consequences from the act of being: inescapable. I’ve learned to escape is to encounter and breathe it in Freedom skin-deep if not enveloped. I’ve learned to be protected is to be vulnerable An exposed and naked self is all you can give. I’ve learned that the currency of happiness is always truth Shallow smiles mask deception. I’ve learned what I’ve learned and tried to leave it at that One thing I’ll never learn is how to be released from your cicatrix.
