Lost Letters and Possessing Picture FramesA Chapter by MiaIn which the girls find a lost letter...or was it lost?CHAPTER SEVEN Kayla jumped over boxes and pulled Abby, who was breathing heavily, away from the door. She glanced down the laundry chute, only to see a person stuck in it. Before Kayla could scream, she looked closer at the eyes. They were open. And was that paint? Of course, it was only a painted mannequin. Whoever lived in the house was obviously an artist. “Abby,” she said “It’s only a mannequin.” But Abby wasn’t listening. “Kayla, don’t you find it suspicious,” she said “We find a Civil War uniform, thousands of paintings and empty picture frames in a house that hasn’t been lived in for months?” “I suppose,” Kayla replied “But I just don’t see how they fit together.” “Listen to this:” Abby said, pulling out a letter from one of the boxes she had been looking through “Dear Ben, Yes, I’ve been painting. You know me so well. I truly miss you, and I’ll see you soon I hope. Abigail’s missing you as well, I can’t go two minutes without her asking me when you’ll be back! Miss you, hugs and kisses from the both of us. With love, Kayla” Kayla looked at Abby, the expression on her face blank. Not only was the letter ancient looking, but their names were in it. “That’s just-“ Abby had picked something up-it was probably one of those picture frames-and she was heading down the stairs. Kayla quickly followed her, wondering where it would take them next. © 2010 MiaAuthor's Note
