CHAPTER TWO

The two girls raced up the stairs and into their bedrooms to change. Once they had opened the doors, they stepped in then closed them again. They then raced down the stairs, nearly crashing into one another. They then stepped outside the patio and walked into the lake. They both could feel the stare of the boys on them. The water was surprisingly clean for a lake in the middle of nowhere. The girls perched themselves up on the rocks and conversed for a few minutes before the boys waded over.

“Hi.” Kayla said, naturally being the first one to speak.

“Hey.” One of the guys said. “I’m Derek, and this is Kyle and this is Matt” he said, gesturing to the two other boys “Do you want to come play volleyball with us?”

Abby and Kayla both exchanged glances.

“No thanks, but we’ll come over and watch if you like.” Kayla said.

“Sure. That’s cool.” The guy named Derek said.

We followed them over to the other side of the lake and watched them play water volleyball, cheering when one of them scored.

“Nice game.” Abby said when they were finished.

“Do you want to come over to our house?” Kayla asked the boys.

“Sure.” They said “Sounds fun.”

“Great!” Abby said “We’ll see you in about an hour then, does that work for you?”

“The boys nodded and headed back to their side of the lake. The two girls walked in.

“Nice , Abby.” Kayla said “Well, we’d better go get changed and start something for dinner. Maybe we could watch a movie with them-“

Kayla stopped talking as she heard a loud knock on the door. She turned around to see one of the guys-Matt, I think- standing there.

“Hey.” she said opening the door. “What’s up?”

“Hey, we were wondering if we could bring some other friends up to the party along, would that be cool with you guys?” He asked nervously

“Yeah, that’d be fine.” Kayla said “Just a question, how many other people?”

“Uh, maybe like four or five?” he replied, shrugging “I’m not sure.”

“That’s fine, I was just wondering.” Kayla said, brightening up “See you soon.”

As he walked away Kayla shut the door and turned around.

“Come on, Abby!” she said “We need to get ready really quickly.”

“Kayla, calm down, we can just order pizza for dinner, that’ll save us some time.” Abby said, trying to calm her friend down “Whoever finished getting ready first can look for the phone book and order.”

Kayla nodded and ran up the stairs, Abby at her heels. While Abby took the first shower, Kayla picked out something to wear. In the end, she decided on a denim miniskirt, a light blue shirt with her favorite polka dot camisole underneath. She paired her outfit with a pair of black Converse, just for a touch of causality, so it didn’t look like she was trying too hard. When she heard Abby get out of the shower and race into her room to dry her hair, Kayla took her clothes for the party and quickly undressed and jumped in for a quick shower.

Meanwhile, once she had finished drying her hair, Abby put it up in a ponytail, which gave her a more girly look. She then picked out a pair of short jean shorts and a pink tank top. She, like Kayla, also wore a pair of Converse with her outfit. After she had finished getting dressed, she raced downstairs to find the phonebook. She eventually found it on top of some cabinets. She grabbed it and flipped through until she found a random ad for a pizza company. She picked up the phone to dial, realizing they weren’t hooked up. She muttered some swear words under her breath while running upstairs to grab her cell phone. On the way upstairs, she noticed a small door that hadn’t been there before, or at least she hadn’t seen it. She decided to check it out later, so she ran in and grabbed her phone. She punched in the phone number and held it to her ear.

“Lucky’s Pizza, how may I help you today?”

“Hi, I need three large pizzas, one cheese, one pepperoni, and one sausage at 2304 Field Street.” Abby said hurriedly

“Your pizzas will arrive in about ten minutes. Thank you for buying from Lucky’s Pizza.”

Abby hung up the phone and ran over to the movie cabinet, which was empty, except for a few Pixar movies and a few others Abby had never heard of. She then remembered that Kayla had brought some movies along with her to the cabin. She raced upstairs and found Kayla playing with her hair.

“Kayla, I need to see the movies you brought.” Abby said “There’s absolutely nothing good downstairs!”

“Okay, they’re in the front compartment of my suitcase.” Kayla said “I’ll be downstairs soon.”

Abby looked around for Kayla’s suitcase, finding it underneath the bed. She pulled out a random movie, which happened to be Panic Room. She raced downstairs and set it on top of the DVD player, so she wouldn’t forget where it was. Abby almost ended up grabbing some chairs for the table in their kitchen, but then thought that they should eat downstairs, after all, it was where they would be watching the movie. Abby turned the light on and walked down there to make sure the bar was ready. Abby pulled some two liter soda bottles out of the fridge. She ran upstairs to greet the guys as they rang the front doorbell. She had actually expected them to come in through the back.

“Hey.” she said as she opened the door.

“Hey.” some of the boys replied.

“Hey, I never think I caught your name when we met.” The guy named Derek said to her.

“Oh, I’m Abby.” she replied, not the least bit nervous “And my friend’s Kayla. I’m going to get her, she’s upstairs. If the pizza comes, could you tell him to wait so we can pay?”

The guys nodded as they looked around the cottage.

Abby raced up the stairs to find Kayla still playing with her hair.

“Kayla!” Abby hissed “They’re here!”

“Sorry, I’m almost done!” Kayla said, trying to finish up her hair, which turned out to be unsuccessful. Abby walked over to her and did it for her, which didn’t take even half as long.

“Thanks Abby.” Kayla said. “Let’s go say hi.”

Time for their party to begin.
