Becoming Spring

Becoming Spring

A Poem by gwon

i pinned a wilting boutonniere
to your frayed lapel
my dear, my dear
so the petals would fill the holes
and your tears would make it bloom
i made sure i pinned it tight
so it would never fall
you said it never mattered
for you did not love at all
you said the world was cold
i could not disagree
you plucked the petals one by one
and placed them where my words should be
a pontillism of tears
was all i could give to you
for yours were poisoned
and killed the flowers too
you put my tears in a jar
and gave them back to m e
'for you, my dear' you said
so you can become the spring
