Aphorism

A Poem by Samuel Ferris

In the golden grasses of Africa
she stalks the heard, waiting

for the young calve of a wildebeest
to stray away from her mother.

The Lion mid leap
takes no pity on the prey

and Death on the last breath of the lungs
will suffer no excuses.

Cruel? No, more like realistic. I suspect that "Death on the last breath of the lungs' is the generalization that makes the poem pertinent to those of us not living 'in the golden grasses.' Good overall analogy and a tightly worded poem that is easy to read and somehow conveys to grace of the lion in 'mid-leap.' Good.

the point is that nature doesn't care. Morals are a relatively new invention.

Very cruel….
But very nice way of putting it down….

..For a moment I thought, you might have seen the famous video, where the lions take the gnu and then the whole herd with his mother attack the lions and free the gnu what still was alive.... nice poem. I like this topic.
