Race Line Part 1: The Legend I never lost there and I was never close to losing there, me and my M3 GTR that ran down the pass of Angel Hills. I was the fastest, I have always been and I always will be. That was all the way back in 2006. The year now is 2012. I by now am a retired racer. My crew was also gone from the race scene, all of them. That didn’t change the fact that we were the greatest race team to ever run down Angel Hills. Its six years later but our legacy remains untarnished, and my downhill record with my M3, unbeaten. No one ever saw any car from the Race Line crew running down Angel Hills since 2006. When the pass on Angel Hills was made, the best record for it was 5:22:23. When I ran it for the first time I broke the record by finishing in 5:00:00. After a couple of weeks practicing for hours on end, I ran it in less than 4:30:00. Not to brag, but, all the years I’ve spent racing did pay off. After winning my first race, I never lost again. I started on top and retired on top. It felt amazing. But it all changed in February 17 of 2012. I now run an Auto Performance/Graphics/Specialty Shop. I went in to work thinking it would be just another day, fix a couple of cars, paint a few more, and then test drive them around town. Part 2: The Challenger from Fortuna I did all that, but later in the day some guy in a Silver Silvia from a team called “The Fortuna Blackhearts” came in and wanted to challenge the fastest Driver down angel Hills. All I said is that I didn’t know who it was and that all I do was fix cars. He was very persistent and decided to run Angel Hills that night expecting to find the best driver, and I was in no position to stop him. Not realizing that he was slowly challenging me, he extended a challenge to the next driver who was willing to challenge him, but it was going to be down Fortuna Valley. I called up Steve, my Scout to find the driver who was willing to face the Silvia down Fortuna. He found a couple and they had a race down Angel Hills to see who would race the Silvia. A guy named Brian in a Skyline won and was going to be the one to challenge the Silvia. The next weekend Brian raced the Silvia and lost. Still not contented the Blackhearts issued a second race but on Madison Hills, a territory no one owned. This time the pink slip to the car of the loser was on the line. This time I was more interested. Alas! The great M3 GTR was at Madison to watch the race. Brian and his Skyline vs. the Silvia of the Blackhearts was the talk of the town. Every racer in Angel Hills, Madison Hills, Fortuna Hills and surprisingly the big guys at Silk High Hills was there to watch it. To my surprise the greats of each valley were there. For Angel Hills: Me and the M3 GTR, for Madison: Travis Clyde and his Carrera, for Fortuna: Tracie Burns and her DB9. We were just about to Hit Silk High as “The Stingrays”, the best crew in the entire city. We came in, dominated the scene, and went out as the best racers in the city. I was now just a record down Angel Hills, and they were now just records down their own hills. And it wasn’t until 3 years ago that the racers in Madison were too afraid of cops to even start crews, thus, Madison being a territory not owned by any crew. Now to the race, Brian was coming in on a newly turbocharged R33 Skyline and the Silvia wasn’t even re-tweaked even just a little bit. They went to the top and went to the starting line. Me, Travis and Tracie were there to witness the race. After the start signal the 2 cars went roaring down the hills. Tracie brought up the idea of us following them in classic “Stingray” fashion, as fast as we could. We got into our cars and roared down the Hill and chased the drivers. Travis was in front, Tracie took second and I was on the back. Watching the Skyline and the Sylvia from way back wasn’t good. There was nothing I could do, this was Travis’ hill. I called Travis and told him to steal the lead from the 2 cars, he did and then I asked Tracie if I could go on ahead. After passing the cars, Travis and I were watching the race from our rearview mirrors. This wasn’t much of a race that I, right now, cared about anymore it was, to me, a grudge match between me and Travis. I’ve never lost on Angel Hills but I have lost to Travis on Madison. It was my chance to take the best of Madison down. This thought was running through my mind as I shifted into 5th gear and drifted through the 1st out of 3 consecutive V corners of Madison Hill. I was approximately .80 seconds behind and I wasn’t gonna let that beat me. On the third V corner I used a more risky technique to turn; if it was successful I would have overtaken and beaten him, but if it wasn’t successful it could be, and would be fatal. I stepped on the brakes and the clutch just a few meters before entering the turn and God knows my luck I chose the right line and perfected the drift around the corner and overtook Travis. Running down the last few corners ahead of Travis made me remember how much fun this was. After crossing the finish line, the Triple G (Ghostly Godlike GTR) of Angel Hills was reborn. After the race Travis came to me and asked what the fuss was about, running like I used to down Madison, and that we were just watching a race. I told him that I just got too pumped up that I had to run like hell down the hill. After that the Silvia crossed the line followed by the DB9, then the Skyline. Brian was winning until Tracie took front and blocked Brian and let the Silvia take the lead. Tracie screwed up my representative and honestly, I didn’t really care. To be honest after the run I had with Travis I was too high on adrenaline to care about anything. I then, talked to Crow, the driver of the Silvia, to spare Brian’s car. Tracie talked crow into agreeing and let Brian keep his car. As it turns out, the real challenge from Fortuna wasn’t Crow taking on Brian; Tracie talked to Crow to find the second best racer in Angel Hills to get to the Best. Tracie has never beaten me, not even on her own turf, that’s why she’s so pissed. She used the race between Crow and Brian to get me pumped up again. She was successful. I called up my scout Steve to call the rest of the crew together. Tracie and I are gonna have one last big race, and its takes place on 2 locations over 2 days, first on Fortuna, then on Angel Hill © 2008 Jared CageAuthor's Note
