The house was silent

The house was silent

A Poem by gsbito
"

From my book "Lost Emotions". Poetry I wrote back in the 1970's.

"

I woke up

too much alone...

so I thought up great thoughts...

and expressed them out loud:

I screamed...

the house was silent.

I ran upstairs,

and looked for my life:

my writings...

I read with a tear.

Then prayed for your help...

the house was silent.

I picked up the phone

several times...

until I finally dialed your number...

you were not home. The message:

Won't you please call? I waited...

the house was silent.

So I searched... for some kind of a sign,

that all was not in vain.

Maybe my music would lend me words

of comfort, as I waited.

I turned up the volume...

the house was silent.

Dusk set in, and brought yet another empty night.

I crawled into an empty bed.

Dreams quickly took over, and you were there.

Taking me by the hand, you smiled, and looked into my eyes.

Your words came out, but though I strained to hear...

the house was silent.
