A Look Behind...One Last Time

A Look Behind...One Last Time

A Poem by Ironbutt
"

Some say..to be able to move forward...we should always look back..at least once....

"
The  bar is almost empty... hard to remember the last toast...
friendly hugs were given, rides provided by the host...
a few are still lingering..no place they want to be...
rather talk to a stranger then walk these empty streets..
I put up the last few chairs, wipe the tables off..
watch as the last few customers make it to their cars...
Ah, now it is my turn, head to where I call home...
back to the room  where silence reins, and memories
warm my bones...
Here I will take that look, one more time at least..
the memories I have stored..those that make up me....
That last look he gave me as his Mother walked away...
yes, thats the one that changed me...
into the man I am today...
Memories that haunt me..like my duffle bag  does now..
how I held it all together then..baffles me somehow....
seeing myself in that  frozen land..oh so far away..
listening to the unspoken answere I didnt want that day..
Yes..just one more look back..then move on with my life...
staying within the rules...
never look back twice!

Thank you, enjoy the journey.
Such a sad write filled with honest emotion.....one last look at a memory before moving on. The new year brings time for reflection....and that is what this poem is. Well written. Lydi**
