Faded Dreams

Faded Dreams

A Poem by Milena Grubor

I was only 14 when I laid my eyes on you,

Sunshine and shadows, felt my heart break through,

The world was spinning, like a record in my mind,

But you were always distant, a star I couldn't find.

The fire burned bright, but the night was so long,

Thirteen years later, I’m still singing this song,

Chasing those memories, lost in your eyes,

I guess I just wasn't good enough to fit in your skies.

I saw you laughing, felt the ground moving underneath,

Every little heartbeat sang a bittersweet belief,

But you were just a whisper, a dream I couldn't catch,

Life's a cruel teacher, and I was just a match.

Now the years have faded, like the light of day,

I’ve learned to dream again, in a different way,

But shadows still linger, as I walk this road alone,

Wondering if you ever knew how I felt about your tone.

Wow, I felt this as I read it, so sad, quite nostalgic.. It reflects on a lost connection, the passage of time, and the bittersweet nature of memories associated with this person, unrequited love is a hell of a thing, been there, finally healed from it.
Keep taking care of you dear.

Goodness, this is profound and poignant. Dreams are flighty wisps of hope and you definitely caught that vibe with this. If I may be so bold as to give a couple of critiques, your musicality in Stanza 3 doesn't really accommodate for the "moving". The image is brilliant and is lost if removed, but it's a tad of a mouthful in the instant compared to the rest of the lines of this piece. Also, the connection between the "match" and the "fire" in the previous stanza is a little flimsy. "match" and "catch" is a great rhyme, but feels like their only reason for coupling is to rhyme rather than "match" cementing its purpose in the internal story. But this poem is so good overall, so moving! Well done!
