The Girl Behind the MaskA Poem by Stephthis is a very personal poem..Please feel free to leave reviews and comments
The girl behind the mask was trusting and kind
She wore her heart on her sleeve And had a beautiful mind She wasn't always scared, she used to believe In the goodness of love, beauty, and peace You'd never guess it tho, she keeps it hidden inside She aches to show the world, but all she can do now is hide Hard lessons were learned, often thru pain But nothing ever lost, only strength was gained The more her heart broke, the more she opened her eyes To the reality of hatred inside People are selfish, callus, and cold She closed herself off, her heart became stone She fought battles daily, all in her head Tho she tried to hang on her heart about dead She grew weary of silently breaking down, of screaming for help Yet no one around. She knows she is strong, she'll always survive She just aches for the freedom to feel vunerable and alive So to the man brave enough to love the girl behind the mask Don't brush her aside like an impossible task She doesn't mean to be cold and closed off. She has learned giving your heart comes at high cost. So don't be so hard on the girl behind the mask Be patient with her, and don't put her last Love her with everything and keep her heart safe And you will come to see she was well worth the wait She'll protect your heart, yet keep you in line Encourage your dreams and comfort your fall She'll see things in you, you can't see at all She'll try hard to show you, what she searched for so long. Love, patience, respect, and a bond unbreakably strong She'll become your best friend, partner in crime She'll dedicate herself to your future together She'll hold your hand no matter the weather So if you're still brave enough to love the girl behind the mask Love her gently, it's all she ever asked © 2018 StephAuthor's Note
