![]() I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO HATE.......A Poem by Bill Grimke-DraytonI’m not supposed to feel the pain and hate. I should be grateful for tangible memories, as though indeed there were those to savour in the bitterness of being dismembered as a person and tossed to the mocking wolves. No, I choose to speak out and gain my freedom in declamatory words, not flinching from the truth that breaks up the status quo as a sharp-bladed plough through desiccated soil. I will no longer shadow-box like a crazy marionette, knowing that others pull the strings. I’ve cut my way out of the cell of my own deception, and entered the real world of hope which stretches out before me and I can breathe the pure air which fills my lungs with life. I will leave those places where I was lost to fear, nurtured by familiar voices who knew me from birth and taunted my every step. I will go where I can never be found by my enemies - to a land of love, which they do not recognize and therefore scorn with all their might, but I’ll not wait for them to change or pretend to change.
