SLEEP, YOU ARE WELCOME

SLEEP, YOU ARE WELCOME

A Poem by Bill Grimke-Drayton

Sleep, you are welcome, familiar friend!

Take me by the hand down

The labyrinth of twisted corridors,

And shield me within your wings,

As shafts of lightning

Flash on my unbound memories.

I cannot speak for fear of the end

Of all things for me. But you’ve

Prepared me to meet

Again the One Who has known me

Beyond my own thought,

For at His choosing I’ll awake

Out of the grave to move among

The olive trees in His garden

And drink of the river of life.
