Well, many things in life are tortuous, I agree with that. But I find this to be a bit too much of a pessimistic view of the world. There are so many good things in life, so many things to be grateful for. I like this word choice, but it is a bit too sad to think about. I will keep it in mind when considering the winners. Good choice though.

One word captures the whole feel. That's style my friend. It's good to see a sense of humour and daring. I had one myself on a similiar theme but haven't finished writing it yet!
Think you've concisely describe many poems on WC, whether deliberately or not....
