RushA Poem by Gretchen Lee Bourquinwritten after seeing a news story that someone got a speeding ticket for going 200 mph on his motorcycle
Let the wind drown out the world while I fly blind at deafening speeds and disregard my life
I'm suspended
my own blood presses hard against the inside of my skin
my bones sing out old spirituals songs to free myself from my own prison
I glide
angels breathe across my back shout "faster!"
The whip cracks through my mind like Belmont stakes
There is no law or sanity
only balance as I strive to make it past my next mark
this poem appears in the poetry collection The Long and Short of It
