Right Here Behind You

Don’t ask me to walk in front of you

Since I cannot lead you the way

Don’t let me choose between right and wrong

Since what is right for me doesn’t fit you

I cannot break the wall for you

Since I am not driving a tank and I am not wonder woman

I cannot shield you from the wound

Since I am not wearing an armor to stand between you and the sword

I don’t know what is best for you

Since I don’t even know what is best for me

                    

I will not climb the rock for you

But I will catch you when you fall

I will not carve the ice to make a door for you

But I will hold it open so you can come home

I will not steer the boat for you

But I will row it to keep it moving

I will not be a heroine for you

But I will be the one to stitch the wounds

I will not walk through the fire for you

But I will be here waiting for you

 

I have been bruised and I have been bled

I have fallen and lost my breath

I have been scraping my way up

And I am now strong enough to stand behind you

Right, I am here behind you

To watch your back to keep it safe

To prop you to keep you standing

 

When people turn their backs on you

I will be the one who is facing you

When you are breaking apart

I will put your pieces back together

And you will be whole again

You will never be alone since I am right here behind you

Turn around and you will see me

No you don’t have to see me

As long as you know I am right here behind you

I will be invisible, I will be your spirit

To stand up and shine through the life
