A Poem by Megan Lynn Tocci

3 April 2020

everyone existing here,

each in their separate solitude,

with their canceled plans and canceled flights.

faces in photos on walls bring crowded

city street chatter to empty bedrooms.

laughter echoes off barstools and cheap

ice-cream reminds you that you are

not forgotten even when

you’re alone,

if you lean into the hum of familiar voices,

the people you hear when you’re

hurting, or tired, or

scared.

lean into the ones

reminding you

to feel, or

sleep, or

fight.

we realize in the quiet

the silences we feel most deeply and

the knowing breaks your heart a bit, doesn’t it?

the ones you should have let go.

the ones you should have held close.

the world holds its breath.

Megan,
this is one of the best poems about the current situation I have read.
You capture every aspect of dealing with the new loneliness that has resulted from our isolation.
We love from a far, we love in a dream.
the last three lines break my heart...
you are a strong voice, Megan
this is really good.

Gee
It's good to have some "alone" time, not so though when it's forced upon you by circumstance.
I'm beginning to miss friends big time now, and work mates, strangely though not my siblings, who, if truth be told are a pain in the arse.
Liked this piece Megan.
Good morning, hope you are well
