EYES OPEN

EYES OPEN

A Poem by Evan

The first time it happened He was ten. He was too young to know back then. In his early teens, it struck again, He promised it would be the end. It wasn’t. he locked him down in the depths of the sea, behind walls and with no key. he left him down 9 circles deep and walked the path of misery. It happened quiet and violently when years later He heard a harmony.

This is number three.

“EYES OPEN”

Inside the darkness.
Inside the cold.
I collected the pieces of my deep fall.
Recalling the voices,
the ones that hurt.
Living in places
I once burned.

He sang on repeat these lines in his head, made friends with the demons that bled in his bed. Didn’t look back the moment He left, passed the gate with only one breath. he was out there, standing in awe, looking at the floor without saying a word. His first step panicked him. His first words frightened him.

Beware my voice,
It whispers things I left unsaid.
No god can save you now,
I am covered in flames.
My footsteps don’t follow any games.

He grabbed his neck with his bare hands until he saw his last sun rise.

Look me in the eyes;
Listen to what I say.
May the bridges I burn
Light the way.
