![]() The RainA Poem by grayhavenThe Rain I stand alone there in the dark In the cold New Orleans spring rain Raindrops running down my face Mixing together with the tears of my pain I stare across the lighted courtyard Longing just to see her face I am wondering yet once again How we came to be in this place This place of terrible uncertainty With my life all in a jumble Heartache, pain, rejection and fear As my world continues to crumble I slowly wind my way Around the tables and the chairs I pull my collar up against the rain As I reach the foot of her stairs What are these sounds that I hear That is coming from beyond her door They are familiar voices alive with laughter And it changes my life forevermore I turn in sorrow and regret Leaning against the wet doorframe Fearing to face this world alone I stare deep into the flickering flame I slowly make my way back into the dark Across the wet courtyard Knowing things will never be the same And going forward will be so hard My love for her will never cease And no matter what my pain Her happiness means most to me As I drift slowly away into the rain © 2011 grayhavenReviews
