Harder Than It Has To Be

Harder Than It Has To Be

A Poem by Rachel DeHart

shake shake shake
       arm cold and chest
                           tight.
i am going to say this once
       i. am. not. strong. enough.

i do not want to sleep.
because i'll dream
             and in my dreams
it is not nearly as hard as this
and I am just getting used to
how complicated everything is.
I am happy here,
do not get me wrong. Because this
is what fitting together with someone
             feels like.
I just wish there wasn't any thing else
to make my heart feel like breaking.
to make me never want to wake up again.

i am not [enough].
please forgive these
small incisions I have to make.
cause see, this heart of mine,
can't stay here in my chest
any longer. I am evicting it, you see.
I'll lock it away [and You'll keep on
chasing it.]

please, forget these tears,
okay? Forget that I am
                    weak
                    broken
                    and sha-sha-shaking.

[i am only going to ruin everything, anyway]

This is very sad, but it's really good.

I think that:
"i am not [enough].
please forgive these
small incisions I have to make."

Really stood out the most to me. Again, very sad, but still really good :]
